Projects
As part of the class, you need to complete a small project. The project will include reading one current paper on network algorithms.
Choosing the paper
First, choose a recent paper on network algorithms. You can pick your paper from the suggested list. Alternatively, you can pick one of the papers related to the network algorithms which was published at the following conferences Infocom, Sigcomm, or SODA over the last 4 years. You can find the list of published papers through the conference websites or in IEEE Xplore and ACM digital library. You cannot report on the same paper you presented in class.
Writing the report
Your report should summarize the main ideas presented in the paper and relate it to the topics covered in class. You should elaborate on the strengths and weaknesses of the proposed solutions. Also, you should discuss whether the proposed ideas are applicable in practical systems and if yes, discuss possible application scenarios.
Format requirements
The report should be typeset using a text processing software such as Latex, Microsoft word, etc. You should submit your report in the pdf format through email to spalex@tamu.edu. The report should include 3-4 pages (including figures and references if any). Instruction for preparing your project are available here
Timeline
You must make a selection of the paper by Tuesday, Dec. 2. Please email you selection to spalex@tamu.edu. The report will be due at 9 pm, Friday, Dec. 12, 2008 (by email).
